Mrs. Leech and tulip bulbs

Mrs Leech is planting tulip bulbs.


Mrs. Leech arranges the tulip bulbs into three rows and finds that she has one spare bulb. How many  bulbs might she have had to start with?

Mrs. Leech plants tulip bulbs in two rows and has one bulb left over. So she tries again.
She plants bulbs in three rows and has one left over. So she tries again.
She plants bulbs in four rows and has one left over. So she tries again.
She plants bulbs in five rows and has one left over. So she tries again.
She plants bulbs in six rows and has one left over.
We know that she has fewer than 100 tulip bulbs. How many does she have?

How many candies were in the bag?

Mrs. McEwen and Mrs. Samson were given a bag of candies. They shared them evenly and had just one left over.  Just as they finished sharing them Mrs. Walters, Mrs. Reyes, and Mrs. Clements came over. They wanted some candies too so Mrs. McEwen collected all the candies and shared them out evenly again between all of them. This time there were two candies left over. 
How many candies could have been in the bag?
